Greetings,

Most people haven’t used ChatGPT yet. Some say this proves that generative AI is a flop. But rapid and widespread enterprise adoption, along with explosive growth of the AI development ecosystem, makes me think that consumer adoption simply isn’t the right indicator here.

  • Google’s enterprise development and deployment platform, Vertex AI has grown 15x just in the last quarter – now they’re adding new models, including Llama 2 and Code Llama, updating their own models with new features, and adding new tools. - Google

  • Only 18% of US adults have used ChatGPT – out of those that have, most actually used it for entertainment rather than learning or work. - Pew Research

  • If you need data visualizations and infographics, try LIDA – it’s an open-source tool from Microsoft that summarizes your data and figures out the best way to present it. - Microsoft

  • Cool use of a transformer network – CoTracker can jointly track the motion of multiple points across an entire video, whereas until now most tools like this tracked individual points separately or all points in a frame together. - GitHub

  • Almost too simple – build private LLMs based on state-of-the-art open-source models with Gradient, which “makes it easy for you to personalize and build on open-source LLMs through a simple fine-tuning and inference web API.” - Gradient

  • Ginkgo Bioworks, owner of mountains of biological data, strikes a deal that is first-of-its-kind for Google Cloud – hoping that AI will help with biology’s “incredibly hard problems and incredibly rich forms of data.” - Ginkgo Bioworks

  • This is more about startups than AI, but it’s an interesting look at how the success of OpenAI came to be, and how Sam Altman basically broke all the startup rules he used to preach while still at the helm of Y Combinator. - Matt Rickard

  • Would you listen to AI-generated sports commentary? – Soon you’ll have a chance to try it in the tennis US Open app and website, thanks to an IBM-powered bot that can even make real-time predictions about how the match will unfold. - IBM
